Dinng-Dong
The chimes and bells outside clanged harmoniously. Each ring after the next sounded echoes through the campus. Faint specks of leaves and the petals of cherry blossoms fluttered through the gentle breeze of the air. Now in the giant window pane of the 4th floor of the East Building was Tamaki Suou, or rather known as the "King" at Ouran and a pretty boy who runs one of the most popular societies of all, The Ouran Host Club. Inside the library and sitting at a large empty table with books all spread around him, today Tamaki was not swooning the pretty ladies. In fact, he was vigourously bent over the table with his head practically buried in the mounds of papers.
Yes, the King was studying today. Exams were only a few weeks away and Tamaki had let this responsibility escape him until he realized he needed to brush up on this books. Wearing his uniform with his tie loosened and his hair ruffled back, Tamaki was actually pretty cute when he was studying so hard. A few girls peered over the bookshelves to stare at him and sigh, all charmed by his good-boy but also very mischevious personality. They loved it when he was preoccupied with things like studying.
Tamaki was busy scribbling away at the paper and also typing away at his laptop's keyboard that he didn't notice someone approach his table. He didn't see them sit down across from him and when he managed to look up finally, he jumped. "Oh!" He was surprised, noticing at last. The librarian rushed over to hush him up and he rubbed his head and bowed his head, losing his regular smoothness. Tamaki looked over at the person who sat down....

Haruhi sat down across from Tamaki, with several books under her arm. A few were from the libraries shelves whereas the others were note books from class. She didn't usually sit in the library to work. It was generally too noisy. But today there were several sporting and artistic events during the afternoon so there were fewer students and she'd needed a few books from the library shelves. She had several problem pages for maths to complete and two reports, one on the life cycle of an animal of her choice and an essay to write on wars in ancient China.
Haruhi had been about to find a table to sit at somewhere and spotted Tamaki. Though he could be annoying at times she still liked his company and so had decided to ask if she could sit with him.
"May I sit with you Tamaki-senpai?" She asked with a smile that lit up her whole face. Brighting a light to her eyes and colour to her cheeks. She set her books down and looked over his face. He really was a very attractive person. Girls swooned over him right and left but she wasn't one to be impressed by looks. Hanging around with good looking boys in the Host Club had cured her of any swooning on looks alone. It was Tamaki's slightly odd personality that interested her. She wasn't sure if she knew him as well as she might in the future and was eager to find out more about him... "You look like you're working hard." She said with another smile. "I never saw you as studious Tamaki-senpai." she added with a laugh.

"Oh of course, Haruhi!" Tamaki was a bit surprised and joyful. He hadn't been used to being approached by her. It was mostly HIM coming to her. Or rather-- running to her. But Tamaki was touched and he wiped away a lone fake tear. He then grew a bit more confident and smiled proudly. "Aah, another side you did not know of papa, Haruhi! I'm actually VERY studious! Why in fact, I placed first in exams last year! Did you know that?" He leaned toward to face her across the table and winked proudly.
Not just looks, but Tamaki was an amazing person anyways. He was intellectually bright-- though he may come off as dim-- and he has a good heart. Tamaki looked to Haruhi with a few books at her arms. "Oh Haruhi! So you're here to study too huh? Exams for the freshmen are pretty vigorous these days, neh?" (OOC: The plot skips a year ahead, but in the manga they were always in the same grade anyways.) Tamaki smiled at his "daughter" happily.
"But for a commoner to get into Ouran is pretty rare too. You must be really bright too then, Haruhi." Tamaki laughed with his jolly-filled grin. "Commoners never cease to amaze me!" Of course, he said that without the impression of being mean. Or rather, he said it unintentionally mean. "Now! Do you need any help from papa? He's really good at school!" Tamaki said, enthusiastically, jumping at the chance to help and spend quality time with Haruhi

Haruhi's expression dropped into a face that very clearly said "so not impressed".
"I don't need a second father senpai." She set out her books into small piles and took the first one. Taking out a sheet with arithmetic questions she began to write them down and work out the answers in her book. Her fine neat hand-writing flew delicately over the page as she worked out each equation in turn.
"Thank-you for the offer of help but I've been getting better at the work here and find some of the tasks quite easy now." Then she laughed as he talked about commoners "amazing" him. ""Commoners" as you so politely put it senpai are no different from people like you. We just live a little differently. There are some nice, some mean, some stupid and some smart, just like all of these apply to rich people like you. There's no need to be "amazed" by me just like I'm not "amazed" by you."
Haruhi had once again said something that had no ill-intention but could seriously dent a proud ego. She carefully began on the next equation, looking up at Tamaki's laptop. It would have been nice to have a computer to carry around with her and help her with writing up notes or finding research information. But her and her father didn't have the money for a laptop. They had a computer at home that they rarely used and her mother had had a laptop- they still had it but it was tucked away. Her father had wanted her to use it whenever she needed to but she was determined that she wouldn't use it until she was a lawyer. It was a lawyer's laptop and she didn't want it broken lost or damaged in between now and her becoming a lawyer. So she didn't use it, either at home or school.
"What are you working on senpai?" She asked, trying to start up conversation again because Tamaki had seemed to go quiet...

Tamaki stared. Second father? Se-- Tamaki rose from his chair suddenly, nearly knocking everything over. He grabbed Haruhi's shoulders and his eyes fluttered all over the place as thunder struck. "SECOND FATHER?? WHO IS THREATENING TO BECOME YOUR 2ND FATHER, HARUHI?? YOU ONLY HAVE ONE FATHER! AND THAT IS ME!!!" Tamaki cried, arousing echoes in the large library. A few turned heads to question what the two were doing and an angry librarian flashed angry looks at him. One glance told the both of them that she will spare shouting in return of total silence. Tamaki sat down and uttered a few apologies. How embarassing.
Tamaki listened to the wise words of Haruhi and nodded. What she said was indeed correct and he smiled, noting the wisdom of her saying. He paused to think about it before she asked him what he was working on. Tamaki blushed and suddenly slammed his computer shut. An animated face appeared and he twiddled his fingers. "N-Nothing..." Tamaki said. In fact, while he was studying, he had been working on an e-card on a program on his laptop. He wanted to present Haruhi with a card that read "Good luck" on the exams a few weeks away.
"Ah, but what about you, Haruhi??" Tamaki asked, even though obviously trying to hide his delightful surprise from Haruhi.

"Um..." Haruhi began, wondering how this next bit of information would go down. "I do actually have a real father remember senpai? You met him? He didn't like you remember?" Again there was no ill intention in her words but Haruhi just didn't realise sometimes how her words could hurt the delicate rich ego.
Tamaki's reaction of slight embarassment and secrecy only heightened her curiousity about what he was working on. Shrugging however she decided not to ask. Maybe it was a surprise for the Club or something... Raising her eyebrows when he asked her what she was doing she looked down at the work in front of her.
"Oh- just some equations for mathematics and a couple of reports. They shouldn't take me too long. One is on history which I'm quite good at and for the other Casanova-kun told me all this information about the life cycle of a blackbird when I went to visit him at the greenhouse yesterday. Once again no ill-intention meant. Haruhi was very naive about some things. Especially when it revolved around people's feelings for her.
Having finished her equations she put them aside and drew out some sheets of paper that had both her own and Casanova-kun's writing on where they had been recording information he knew about them. She'd written the notes and occasionally he's leant forward, taken the paper and added another note or explaination of something she'd written but didn't understand. His hand-writing was a little scruffy and completely different to her own neat print, but she was able to read it and slowly began to write out the first draft of the report on another piece of paper...

[OOC: Yea we need a direction to take this thread in. Any ideas?]
"Ah, I'm working on the books for the exams. But also..." Tamaki held up a file. "I'm looking over some business items for the Suou family." Tamaki smiled gently and chuckled ever so slightly. "Oto-san, he... He told me about a lot of what I should learn. About the Suou family..." Tamaki said and trailed off. Sometimes it was a bit painful talking about this kind of stuff, but he did his best. Haruhi DID already know about his past and plus that time he skipped his trip to France, she'd already learned about his mother even more.
Tamaki's face reddened. He saw the obvious notes that Kasanoda had made on the pages beside Haruhi's own compact and neat script. "So you spent time with Bossa Nova-kun, huh?" Tamaki slammed a hand on the table with a comical jealousness. "What else did you guys do? Did he violate you??" Tamaki yelled, yet whispered to Haruhi, his eyes turning into beady dots and horns appearing on his head like a bull. Steam could practically be seen blowing out of his ears.

((OOC: Lol... Um... okay direction for this thread... Oooh- how about this (sorry I'm gonna make something up...).))
Haruhi physically backed up in her chair, away from Tamaki who was leaning downward across the table. Her eyes were wide in astonishment. He really did like to play that father-daughter game to the fullest. Sometimes it was funny and sometimes it made her wonder... Was Tamaki really so lonely at home that he had to make up his own family at school? These thoughts had led Haruhi to somewhat allow him the game...
"Um... no. Tamaki-senpai we just talked. He gave me some notes for my project. He really was very kind. Is there something wrong about him that I don't know?" She frowned wondering if Tamaki knew something horrible about Casanova-kun that she didn't know. Hmm... No surely not. Tamaki was just playing his daughter's protector again. There was nothing to worry about or to fear from Casanova-kun.
Suddenly an idea struck Haruhi as Tamaki appeared to calm down.
"Senpai, isn't it your birthday soon?" She asked. She was sure his birthday was in April. What date she wasn't sure. "What are you planning to do on your special day? It'll be after the exams right? You could have a double celebration- your birthday and the end of the exams. Are you planning anything with the Host Club or just doing something special with your family?" She wondered how far to take this subject. Haruhi knew that Tamaki's mother was in France, disappeared somewhere... Celebrations such as birthday and Christmas would be hard on him, and probably make him remember his mother. It was similar for Haruhi but at least she had grown used to these mother-less events. Tamaki had only left his mother a few years ago...

[Yeeshers! Bday! ^^ Is his bday really in April?]
Tamaki opened his mouth and leaned back, not being able to find anything about Bossa Nova that he could share. He began twiddling his thumbs, a bit jealous that his daughter was spending such quality time with a stranger! One who knows she is a girl, no less! But his droppy face turned into a more serious one as Haruhi mentioned his upcoming birthday.
"H-Haruhi..." Tamaki said, his eyes shrouded by his hair. A silence. Suddenly, Tamaki stood up and put a hand to his heart, touched. "I am so happy you remembered, Haruhi!" Tamaki declared, a tear rolling down his face and fluttering into a motion of intricate movements as if he was dancing. "I'm very very touched!" He said and smiled at her in a very prince-like manner. He sat down quickly when the Librarian rounded the corner.
He laughed. "No actually I don't have anything planned. It's so close to the exams this time around so I wasn't sure if I had the time. And father is busy... And..." He trailed off. Another silence. A small laugh escaped his mouth and he rubbed his head, as if kind of embarassed this entered his brain. "Ah... nothing...." He said. [Feel free to question what he was about to say. I want to lead the convo this way.]

((OOC: Kk. Lol. And I don't know if his birthday is in April. I think an April birthday would suit him though don't you? Lol... In the spring with all the cherry blossoms? Lol...))
At first, when Tamaki had leant back to hide his face in a curtain of hair Haruhi had worried that she'd said something wrong. Then with his usual melo-dramatic Tamaki-senpai personna, he instantly bounced to his feet declaring how he was "touched" at her thoughtfulness... And I didn't even remember the date... Haruhi thought.
Haruhi's amusement however dwindled as Tamaki trailed off about his father working. Her father had always worked, but on her birthday he refused to go to the bar. He'd been fired once for not showing up for work when he'd been ordered to. Instead he had wanted to be at home for Haruhi's birthday. Tamaki's father was so busy, yet he seemed the sort of person to take the day off for his son's birthday. On the other hand he was the head of a huge business. Him, taking a day off would probably affect that business hugely.
It was obvious that Tamaki was about to say something else, but he dwindled off, saying "nothing" instead. Curious Haruhi wondered if it would be out of place or upsetting for him for her to ask what he had been going to say. Decided that if he wanted to keep it a secret he could claim again that it was nothing she leant forward a little over her notes and said-
"What were you going to say senpai? I won't repeat it to anyone if it's private, if that's what you're worried about..."

Tamaki was truly touched by Haruhi's carefulness. He smiled anyways and rubbed his head. "Oh, well, it's nothing private really..." Tamaki commented, a slight blush on his face. "I just remembered something." Deciding that it was pointless to hide it or conceal the fact that it was an important memory, Tamaki smiled calmly and opened his mouth to speak.
"I never had a birthday party before... I moved here 2 years ago. The first year I went out to dinner with my father and Kyouya's parents. The second year was basically the same. But I was just thinking..." he paused. "Thinking about mother, that's all." He laughed as though it were something to be ashamed of. "I don't remember having a party if I ever did. But I used to play the piano for her on my birthdays and she'd get out of bed on that special occasion and we'd play on the piano together. I think that's my best memory..." Tamaki chuckled softly and rubbed his head, looking at the tabletops, unsure of what Haruhi would think of this. He didn't want to put her in an awkward position so he immediately changed the subject.
"I'd love to plan something this year though! Since we're all together now." He meant the Host Club. It was almost the first real family he could hang onto. "Mmmm.." A hand to his hand in thought. "Perhaps an elephant... Or a real Godzilla? I've never seen one before..." He said, his tone beginning to press onto a more troublesome way.

Haruhi smiled at Tamaki being back to normal. It was a little odd seeing him being serious and quiet. In some ways it was a nice odd- seeing that he really was just human, and that he did have problems and things that upset him, and in other ways it was just odd-odd. Tamaki was never serious. Or he was serious about non-serious things.
Haruhi laughed at the mention of the elephant and Godzilla.
"I don't think Godzilla really exists senpai. But I'm not gonna stop you with the elephant- Kyouya might. But it's your birthday so you can do what you want. It would be great to involve the whole school- I'm sure a lot of girls would want to be there to wish you happy birthday!"
Gx ((OOC: Very short sorry. If you agree to it being a whole school event like the dances the Host Club um... host lol then I have a plan for a more personal celebration with just the host club- hence the "birthday plans" thread which tamaki is not invited to but you are welcome to read! Lol...))

He laughed. "A school event?? That'd be amazing!" Tamaki said. Before anything else could be uttered, the bell tolled slowly outside. Students in the library began gathering their things to leave. He looked at his watch. "Oh no! That's the second bell. I need to go now, Haruhi." He smiled at her cheerfully. "See you after school!" He said and took off.

((OOC: There's not much I can reply to that but here we go...))
Haruhi shook her head in bewilderment and smiled. The guy was funny. Every day was different with him. Life never got boring. She was a mixture of apprehension and excitement for this school event of his. But she also had the beginnings of an idea for his birthday. One that she would soon be sharing with the rest of the Host Club...
